Help, Everyone is in the Home Office! (5 Ways To Overcome The Challenges of Working From Home)
You’ve just set up your workstation in your home office, ready to check your inbox then your eight-year-old kid comes knocking on the door asking what’s for breakfast. So you head out of the room, make pancakes for the kids, come back, and the WiFi connection is super slow. It turns out everyone is on their devices!
So how do you make sure you’re still able to get things done at work and balance time with family?
Hire to get help. Have your mom come over for a couple of hours to watch the kids or divide the responsibilities between you and your spouse.
Set clear boundaries with family and friends. Let them know they can't come over during your work times. You have to have the integrity to do as you say as well.
Set clear expectations with the family. Be clear as to who's doing what and whether it's something you're willing to do or not willing to do.
Routine is critical. The routine should be the same. There's no adjusting. If you want more flexibility, create a window built into your schedule where there's nothing going on.
Discipline has to be mental and physical. Be the person that shows up and does the work.
Other ways to seamlessly transition into working from home:
Upgrade your internet connection to a business account.
Look at hiring a third party or a contractor. They're project-based and they already have the skillset that you're hiring for. So you're not taking on the financial responsibility.
Make it a team effort. Kids have to have responsibilities too. Make sure kids are doing what they're supposed to be doing.
