Building Your Teams and Accelerating Out of the Shutdown
While working on Google’s project, Aristotle, they’ve discovered five key elements of high-performing teams. These are great ideas that you could also apply to your organization so you can encourage your teams to be accelerating and not hesitating, as you create your new future together.
1. Psychological Safety
Are you making your team members feel safe to both give and receive feedback from each other? Are they willing to share a variety of ideas?
2. Dependability
Make sure work status is visible and that there are clear owners for the tasks so everybody knows who’s going to be doing what and when. Team members are also willing to continuously share their status. So if they’re running into issues, other team members might be able to help.
3. Structure and Clarity
Let your team understand the goals and purpose of the project. Give them autonomy, ownership, and clear definitions of their responsibilities and put a framework around those.
4. Meaning
It's not just about the work, but it's about the people doing the work. If there's a mismatch between their particular skills and the work that needs to be done learn how to modify that or switch tasks.
5. Impact
Let your team see the impact of their work. Also, be mindful of your team’s wellbeing, making sure you take a step back when you notice some concern around burnout.
