Ideas for Becoming a Silver Entrepreneur with Jody Maberry
About 66% of the people who are thinking of doing something like a podcast haven't made that next step.
Why?
First, there needs to be a mindset shift. Get over yourself and don’t shy away from getting in front of people. You have to be able to tell people what you do and how you can help them, otherwise, you can’t help them.
Next, figure out your offering or value proposition and be clear about it.
Podcasting Tips to Help You Get Started
1. Get the help and direction you need.
If you've had a 26-year corporate career, you don't even know where to go, what program to use, or how to go about it. You could learn all those skills and be mediocre at them. But you can get those resources so you can stick with what you do best and not get sidetracked.
2. Do it regularly.
No rules here. You can have episodes as short as six minutes or as long as an hour. You can do it once a week or once a month, as long as you do this thing regularly. But you don’t want people to forget you so showing up at least once a week would be ideal.
3. It's not about the numbers, it's about the connection. It's also about yourself.
If you show up every week and say something, you begin to understand what feels right when you say it and what catches.
4. Talk as if you’re only talking to one person.
Don't feel like you have to talk to a crowd. The podcast listener should feel like you’re talking to them personally. And once they listen to you regularly, they start to really feel like they know you.
5. The best advertisement for the episodes you put out this week is the episode you put out next week.
The more you put out, the more people will discover, go back, and listen to old ones.
