Why We Need a Webinar on Jumpstarting Your Encore Career

I’ve recently been reflecting on the idea of the “encore career.”

Why?

Issues in Our Country

First of all, we have a demographic issue in the US. Over 28 million Boomers are retired and we are adding about 2 million each year. That means that many people who could be working are now just sitting on the sidelines.

We have a longevity issue, too. It used to be that if people retired or left the workforce in their 60's, they only had a few years in front of them. However, if someone retires in their 60’s now, they could easily have 30 years in front of them. This leaves retirees with the issue of how they’ll finance and spend all that time.

On top of this, technology is a double-edged sword for the Boomer generation right now.

On the one hand, we have issues around artificial intelligence, all kinds of new manufacturing technologies, and new technology in general. The Boomer generation didn't grow up with these technologies. They have to learn them and that might hold some of them back from participating in the new economy.

On the other hand, it’s possible for the Boomer generation to learn these technologies. The fact that they exist means it's easier than ever to start a business. You can truly create your own “company of one.” Therefore, as long as individuals choose to use them, they can have a very successful encore career given all the available technologies.

To combine my research on these issues with my years of experience, on June 9th I’m hosting a webinar called “4 Actions to Jumpstart Your Encore Career.”

Last week on Leading the Factory Forward, I gave a preview of the webinar.

Why This Webinar?

Everybody needs more people right now. There is a gap in the workforce. New talent loves learning and experienced talent loves sharing. Small and medium companies have limited time and attention, making it hard to bring on new talent. This is why we need both new and old talent to fill this gap.

I believe experienced talent could fill gaps in employer needs and serve as coaches and mentors to new talent. This is entirely possible because many experienced talents may not want to fully retire but also don’t want to work 50+ hours per week. Filling coaching and mentoring roles would allow them to do just this.

On top of that, there are the 3 issues I mentioned above: demographics, longevity, and technology.

So, in the webinar I will be discussing:

  • My journey and your possibilities

  • 4 steps that you can take regarding your mindset, value proposition, skill set, and practice

  • What your journey will be like

  • Some do’s and don’ts to jumpstarting your encore career

  • How I can help you create your “company of one”
