#120: Is the Story You are Telling Yourself Getting in Your Way with Dennis McIntee

See this content in the original post

Today I’m talking with Dennis McIntee of the Leadership Development Group. Dennis and I met through Jonathan Milligan and his programs. Since then, I have enjoyed keeping up with Dennis and his projects.

Dennis literally wrote the book on drama-free teams. It is titled The 8 Qualities of Drama Free Teams: Do More. Stress Less. Zero Drama. He still does this kind of work today as he helps organizations and leaders eliminate the drama from work and get more results.

As I was developing my Encore Career, Dennis repeatedly asked me one question: “What is your fastest path to cash?” He told me that that was what I had to focus on as I built my business. This principle holds true for anyone creating an Encore Career.

In this episode, Dennis and I discuss the stories we tell ourselves. If you’ve ever felt like your thoughts or mindset were getting in your way, tune in. Dennis will encourage you and teach you some great insights on overcoming these obstacles of the mind.

We'll dive deeper into these concepts:

  • How the stories we tell ourselves and others can help us or create unhelpful drama

  • Why believing that I or anyone else can help you is much less important than believing that you can do it

  • Why knowing who is more important than knowing how

  • Retirement means being “put out of use”

  • Why we should think of retirement as a time to “refire” and put our knowledge, skills, and experiences to use
