#23: Lessons for Leaders: How Using the Story Brand Method Can Jumpstart Your Product and Brand (Part 4)

Stories are how we connect with people and ideas. Story Brand is how you craft your message to your customers.

How can you do that most effectively?

First, understand that your customer’s story is the most important piece, not YOUR story.

It's not about telling people how good your products or services happen to be.

The story you want to be crystal clear on is about your customer and their internal and external interests and needs.

So, how can you use the Story Brand method to jumpstart your product and brand? Well, that’s the focus of today’s episode!

This episode closes out the four-part series on using Lean Startup ideas and methodologies for your manufacturing business.

In case you missed the other episodes, here’s a quick recap:

We started with the Lean Startup method basics and utilizing the Business Model Canvas.

Then we moved on to crafting your value proposition, learning how to connect what you do and what you want to offer with what the customer really wants.

And last week we talked about the customer discovery process.

We uncovered how to go about learning more about your customers.

In the final episode of this series, I share some ideas on how to clarify your message to your customers or stakeholders using the Story Brand method.

We’ll dive deeper into these concepts:

  • The story is about your customer - internal or external  - and not about you

  • How to create clarity for your customers but also for yourself

  • Story Brand - what it is and why it’s useful, plus how to use the Story Brand worksheet

  • StoryBrand Marketing ideas, creating a “one-liner” for your product or business, and the importance of a clear call-to-action

  • Moving your customer from Curiosity to Enlightenment to Commitment

My challenge to you this week is to try creating a “one-liner” for your business or project.

And check out the Story Brand book or the podcast and experiment with creating your own brand script using the seven steps mentioned in this episode.

Coming up next time on Leading the Factory Forward, I’ll be talking about what we can learn from Finding the Space to Lead and creating new habits of mind and action.
