If you are a Silver Entrepreneur, or a bit older than today’s youth, you may be wondering how you are going to connect with millennials in the workforce. And just as importantly, you want to know how to work with them. In this second part of my 5-part series on Finding Your Workforce and Developing Talent, I explore topics which will help you hire, communicate, and work with millennials.

This episode dives into some aspects from the book Answering Why, Unleashing Passion, Purpose, and Performance in Younger Generations by Mark C. Perna. The key points from the book I cover include defining the skills gap and understanding the new generation.

I highly recommend you take some time to review the resources linked in the show notes below. After that, I also recommend you connect with your local educational institutions and align with people who are in your future workforce. On an upcoming episode I will be talking about the importance of connecting with apprenticeship programs.

We’ll dive deeper into these concepts:

  • Defining the skills gap and a reminder to sometimes evaluate your workforce’s skills based on experience rather than education.

  • Understanding the new generation, including their desire to work to live and why lifestyle matters to them.

  • The reality that employee loyalty is different today.

  • How younger generations don’t always hear the branch creaking, what this means, and how we can help support millennials.

  • The concept of career trees and its three levels.
