Here in this community, we are getting tired of or have already left our corporate careers and are stepping into an Encore journey. We want to make the most of our lives and keep contributing to a society that needs more workers.

If that sounds like you, I want you to know about my upcoming Encore Career Book Club. Beginning on October 27, I’ll be hosting a book club to help those who are 50 plus and new to entrepreneurship how to practically apply lessons from the book You Are the Brand by best-selling author Mike Kim. 

Last week on Creating Your Encore Career, I explained more about the book club and how it will work. Let’s get into it!

My Motivation for An Encore Career Book Club

I have been on an Encore Career journey for seven years. Before I retired from my corporate career, I realized that I had outgrown it. I was tired of people seeing me just through the lens of that position; they didn’t see what other skills and knowledge I had developed. This propelled me into an Encore Career. 

Beyond that, in researching the subject of Encore Careers, I found additional reasons that we need them. For example, we are living longer and healthier lives. There is a real possibility of having a 60-70 year adult life. What will we be doing with those decades after 60 and how will we fund our 40 years of life after our sixties? 

Knowing all of this, I wanted to start an Encore Career Book Club to give you a chance to explore information about an Encore Career, to see what’s possible and if it fits for you, and to let you know some of what is needed for creating an Encore Career.

The Book

In the book club, we’ll study You Are The Brand: The 8-Step Blueprint to Showcase Your Unique Expertise and Build a Highly Profitable, Personally Fulfilling Business by Mike Kim. I took the class that Mike provided with the book and have worked with Mike for many years. He certified me to teach his method.

How It Works

Once you sign up for the book club, I’ll send you links for four weekly Zoom calls. We will also have a Slack channel where the replays of our calls will be posted and you can converse with your peers.

In each call, we’ll cover two of the success steps from the book. We’ll also share practical examples to help you apply the process.

By participating in the book club, you’ll come out with a variety of benefits. You will get to explore what you could do in the next phase of your life. You will get a high-level roadmap of the success elements of an Encore Career through the YATB process. There will also be an opportunity to take the learning to another level after the book club finishes and we may consider whether to explore some additional books afterward.
