Peak Performance with Bryan Gillette

Are you being deliberate about Creating Your Encore Career? Instead of continuing on the same path, it's time to think bigger and consider long-term fulfillment. Bryan Gillette, founder of Summiting Group, shares some insights on reaching peak performance in your career.

Be deliberate about achieving big things.

  • Be very deliberate about what you say “yes” to, but also know what to say “no” to. Prioritize only the three most important things that you're going to get done. Find that thing that you really enjoy doing and find somebody that will do it with you.

  • Take time to recover both physically and mentally. Look at work-life balance differently by incorporating necessary rest into your schedule.

  • Take personal responsibility for your decisions if you want to lead a balanced and stress-free life. This includes taking vacations, limiting distractions such as turning off phones, and controlling how we react to external factors.

  • Communicate with your staff or colleagues in advance to let them know your availability or set boundaries to only check emails at specific times during the day.

Be mindful of your time.

  • By having control over your time, you can maximize your performance during work hours and enjoy leisure time without interruptions. Taking breaks and prioritizing your own needs does not make you less valuable as an employee or business owner. It's common for the ego to get in the way of taking a break, but it's important to remember that rest and relaxation are crucial for productivity and well-being.

  • Make it easier for you to get out. Take the time to prepare yourself the night before and you will eliminate excuses from your routine. For instance, keep things prepared and ready for the morning so it makes it much easier for you to get out of bed and achieve your goal. Have your shoes, socks, clothes, and food laid out the night before.

Ensure peak performance.

  • Envision the big things in life you want to do

  • Plan - how do you put a plan in order to do them

  • Iterate - start off at one level and work your way up

  • Collaborate - collaborate with somebody who has done it before

Taking on an encore career is an opportunity to pursue a path that aligns with your values, passions, and aspirations. By being deliberate and thinking bigger about what you want to accomplish, you can create a career that is both meaningful and rewarding. So, embrace this new chapter in your life with excitement and curiosity, knowing that the possibilities are endless.
