How to Engage with Business Recovery

For the last few weeks, on Leading the Factory Forward, I've been talking about how manufacturing leaders can lead their team and organization through the novel coronavirus crisis.

I've previously discussed the three phases of the crisis as it relates to manufacturers. When it comes to the third phase, engaging in the recovery, there are several areas leaders must seek to engage. The first one and probably the most crucial at the start is to engage in your thinking and your people's thinking.

What I mean by this is: Think about how you engage in explaining what the future holds; for the organization and what might be the plan moving forward.

Some other areas in which leaders can focus during the recovery phase:

  • Manage your attention

  • Rethink your routines - personal and with people

This time is not just about losing in this crisis. Instead, remember:

  • It's okay to acknowledge what's gone wrong.

  • Embrace the messy middle with yourself and your team

  • Engage in the recovery with new processes and routines

Use the time now to learn and plan for your recovery. Remember, in this crisis, it's not about "not losing" but preparing to recover and win.
