Personal Branding with Jennifer McClure

One side of branding is that people are going to do research on you. So you want to have a body of work that represents your brand, whether that's a blog, a website, a LinkedIn profile, a good social media presence, any or all of those things where people can look at who you are, what your voice is, what your approach is, and then they can decide if you're a good fit for them.

How to Build Your Brand When You’re Building a Company of One

  • Invest in a career coach.

  • Go out and start networking and start with three names.

  • Build relationships.

  • Build your own brand online.

How to Effectively Use LinkedIn to Build Your Brand

  • Have a fully complete profile.

  • Build out your work experience history.

  • Have a really great summary.

  • Have a great headline.

  • Be intentional about who you're connecting with.

  • Put a personalized connection note on there because some people won't accept an invitation if it doesn't have a personal note.

  • Be consistently active. Whether you’re posting a status update, sharing an article, or connecting with people, all of those are SEO juice.

Your LinkedIn profile is going to be one of the first, if not the first, things that people see when they Google your name. So if you're trying to start your own business, or if you just want to grow your career, people are going to Google your name to learn more about you or they're just going to go straight to LinkedIn.
